"Android's L release has a new approach to notifications. In Jelly Bean, Google allowed developers to add expanded information and functionality to notifications. Now, users can access their entire notification list directly from the lock screen. You can swipe down to expand the notification panel to get more information. You can also swipe up to unlock the device. Google also introduced heads-up notifications that allow developers to add a small box that appears above full-screen apps that users can expand, act on, or dismiss without leaving the app they're in or opening the full notification shade."
"Parker has written for CSS-Tricks before, in his article Crop Top dealing with the positioning of fluid images. This is a great follow up to that, presenting another option in the never-ending responsive images saga. It's also an interesting contrast to yesterday's post on responsive images - so you can see how very different the approaches to this problem can be."

"Amazon is introducing its first smartphone. The Fire Phone is a 4.7 inch handset aimed at the company’s most loyal customers: Amazon Prime subscribers. The phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, an HD display, and a Gorilla Glass, scratch-resistant screen. But those aren’t the features that really make it stand out from the competition."
"The result is a system six times more powerful than existing servers that requires eighty times less energy. According to HP, The Machine can manage 160 petabytes of data in a mere 250 nanoseconds. And, what’s more, this isn’t just for huge supercomputers- it could be used in smaller devices such as smartphones and laptops. During a keynote speech given at Discover, chief technology officer Martin Fink explained that if the technology was scaled down, smartphones could be fabricated with 100 terabytes of memory."
"Console OS sounds like an interesting project… but it also doesn’t sound all that different from what we’ve seen from Android-x86, Bluestacks, and other efforts to bring Android and Android apps to Windows PCs."
"Mozilla’s Firefox OS is an operating system designed to run on low-cost smartphones and tablets while running apps developed using web technologies such as HTML5. "Sadly, there was no photographer there for the bit where Prince William waved at us and shouted “Ha! It’s Raspberry Pi!”, but I can tell you now that I don’t expect anything weirder to happen to me all year."
"As you can imagine, Lens Blur Live Wallpaper is a live wallpaper and thus it does live wallpaper things. You set it as your wallpaper and it then populates your background with lens blur images that you took with Google Camera. It’s not just an image-rotating wallpaper and it does come with some special effects. "
